Preparing For Your Surgery/Procedure

Pre-admission screening will be done by your Surgeon and /or Primary Care Physician prior to your surgery/procedure, if needed.

You must arrange for a responsible adult to drive you home after your discharge from the surgery center. You may not go home in a taxi unless you are accompanied by a responsible adult. Arrange for a responsible adult to be with you during the first 24 hours after your surgery/procedure for your protection and safety. You will be given written instructions for your care at home before you leave the facility.

If there is any change in your physical condition, such as a cold, fever, respiratory problem or rash, please notify your doctor immediately.

Do not eat or drink anything, including water or gum, after midnight the night before your surgery/procedure unless otherwise instructed.
Refrain from smoking the night before your surgery/procedure. If directed to do so at the pre-operative visit or from the pre-op nurse, take your regular medications with one small sip of water at the regular time. You may brush your teeth, but do not swallow any water.

You can expect a call from one the nurses one to two days prior to your surgery/procedure. If you did not speak to one of the nurses by 2 pm the day before your surgery/procedure, or if you have questions, please call us at 925-626-9000.

Your scheduled surgery/procedure time is an estimate only. We will make every attempt to meet this estimated appointment time. However, due to the individualized nature of healthcare, schedule variations may occur. Please make sure we have a phone number where you can be reached on the day of your surgery/procedure if we need to contact you to adjust your appointment time.
